Champion of the "Champions"
Interview with world boxing champion Grigory Drozd.
Gregory, you've now watched our movie 'Champions 2' ('Faster. Higher. Stronger.'). What are your thoughts?
Today was a roller-coaster or emotions for me, all very positive. I believe that the time, energy and money spent on movies like these are crucial to our development as a country, a nation and for our younger generation and their parents too. These are our heroes... Russian heroes like Alexander Karelin, Alexander Popov, Svetlana Horkina - these are people that seem to motivate the world. And I'm sure that they'll serve as inspiration for generations to come. The young will grow up watching films like these, understanding what these heroes have gone through and what they've achieved for themselves and their country.
Do you believe that the theme of sports in movies is current and do you envision a future development?
In the last 15 years, our cinemas have been over-saturated with all sorts of genres, except for one - and that is sport. 'Champions 2' is a breakthrough and the answer to a huge demand. I strongly believe that films as such are wanted- needed even, in modern times. We've got premieres and lots of success behind the two 'Champions' movies. Viewers feel proud when projects like these get released and I believe that it then becomes essential to film these kind of productions in Russia.
Could this potentially turn into a series?
Basing my answer on the current movie, I believe that a lot of interest would surround a similar series. Needless to say, the filming and camera work has to be impeccable and the psychological and character complexities surely kept from the approach of the first two films. There is no doubt, that if Renovatio takes on the project, it would achieve everybody's highest expectations.
What could you suggest for the company in terms of future development?
Firstly, I feel the need to say that Renovatio is still a young company, and the fact that it's breaking into the Russian and global film industry at such a fast pace is already mind-boggling. For that reason, I am very happy. I know the people that create these movies, the ones that run the studio and the ones responsible for anything that goes on in the background - they are some of the most genuine, kind and wise souls I've come across. I honestly believe that Renovatio is on the path to achieving big things. And viewers agree with me. I can only wish the company more success and I feel blessed to know them. Thank you, for creating such amazing films!
Would you be prepared to take part in a movie about the sport of your choice?
I've got so many thoughts regarding that! Obviously, I have favourite movies about boxing and if God gives me the opportunity, I'd certainly be willing to participate in a project about this sport. If that ever happens, I think I may come in use!
